Here’s the process I have been doing for editorial design project.
My editorial design project will be about food styling. I am going to interview a professional food stylist from Indonesia, Novi Buana (www.novifoodstylist.com). She already sent her pictures about her works about the process and the how the food on a packaging. She sent me images about processing walls ice cream to make it really neat (I am going show the real product of Walls ice cream so we can see the difference). She sent image of fried chicken as well, and an image of a packaging of milk, to show how it is working on a packaging.
This article wants to tell to the reader that to make an advertisement or TVC or packaging, that the food need to be done by food stylist other wise it won’t look ‘’yummy’’ or interesting. Because the real product the shape is not that nice as in advertisement , TVC or packaging, and what food stylist is about.
I also will put about her.
First of all, I asked the food stylist for the images of her works, and then I interviewed her. I set how many word for one page (mine is about 300 max, for 1 page). Then decide how many pages my article will be.
After the interview I will write follow the words that I already set for one page.
After that I made some sketches, compare fonts size (print this, to make sure it is readable), fonts types for the text’s article, title and caption. Later, I will start doing layout in in-design.
My specification of the magazine is:
- Size: 23cm x 30cm (but I will change, depend, what is in the class want). I change this size because in this size it will not waste paper.
- 8 pages
- Printing process will be 4/4 (full colour)
- 300 words maximum on 1 page.
- Paper for Cover: Art Card 300 gsm, laminating doff, spot uv
- Paper for Content: Matted Paper 120 gsm.

It is to find out what is it in a magazine, content page, article, divider, etc. One is glamour magazine, which is every section is very clear. And egg magazine is quiet confusing about the section.
We went to design museum. On second floor there is an exhibition called Wim Crouwel A graphic odyssey. He is one of the leading designers of the twentieth century, Crouwel embraced a new modernity to produce typographic designs that captured the essence of the emerging computer and space age of the early 1960s.
“Panto” logo for Panto furniture, the logo looks like cubism. Makro logo still being used until now, just the colour is different.
this exhibition is sharing an interest in abstract art & appreciation of the value of good design, the oppurtunity to explore typography & composition. For example, we can see how a stamp was designed from sketch. There is a unique Wall calender designed. when we read the every month of that calendar, it is formed from cut letter.
The colour he’s been using is very limited collour like 2 colours printing because at that time printing cost for full colour was so expensive.
Graphic in 1952-1963 approach to the creation of hand rendered type & unique use of space & colour was developed.
His layout & composition is modernist aesthetic & the effortless simplicity resulting from the rigorous grid has been a constant source of inspiration for many year.
His typefaces have logic & rationality behind them, & his modernism making them still relevant until today.
On the top floor the exhibition is about The Brit Insurance Designs Awards. The Britt Insurance is , “the Oscars of the design world,” showcase the most innovative and forward thinking designs from around the world, spanning seven categories: architecture, fashion, furniture, graphics, interactive, product and transport with 5 main themes: city, play, learn home and share.
Laurence Kemball-Cook and Philip Tucker’s Pavegen paving slabs (which harness energy from footsteps to power lighting and signage displays) or another project from Béhar, the See Better Learn Better free children’s eyeglasses, coffin, barclay cycle, angry birds, fiat car and many more are shown there.
On Friday 17 June 2011, Ian Richard from Heavy Object was talking to us about the professional practice. How he deal with low budget client. He said sometimes he had to work on a project with limited budget from client, and still has to produce an interesting thing. So he comes out with 2 colour printing, which, it’s very interesting for me, because the layout of the book is still interesting. I’ve got the lesson that, we have to be able to work with the client budget. and sometimes we have to take away our idealism, and follow the client wants and needs. He said that we can cut the printing cost by choosing the dimension of the paper, and he said that sometimes the client want is not the same with what we think. Now i understand that the important thing is provide the clients need, even though sometimes we doesn’t agree with what we think, and we have to find solution when the clients have limited budget. There is always a solution.
This is a bowl for bread made from lego.. very interesting..
I like this menu in sketch restaurant, conduit street. It’s pop up
iPad has built in apps (such as photo booth, safari, mail etc) and applications for ipad divided to categories such as business apps, education apps, entertainment apps, news apps, lifestyle apps, games apps, social networking, sports apps, travel apps.
Some ipad applications are very simple, easy to read, but have impact.
The application design can have high resolution image, and real 3D.
My tutor send my design to his colleague, Heather Rutledge, fundraiser who is working at book africa, and got the feedback. I know that have my limitation, but I know that for the real one I am going set up another books with just the children books, and take another picture, and after doing it in photoshop.
